~This weeks activities~

Daily Life
We have had a really busy week this week so thought I would post some pics that we took this week....even some silly that Heath did...
Eli coloring...or excuse me doing his "school work"

Alex with his "scu wuck"

Made some more activities for Eli this week...
The kit on the left is matching shapes or colors, the one in the center is matching numbers and on the right is counting...Now...I will say these are very simple and they are for my 3 year old but he LOVES them. They keep him busy while Heath is working on his school work so they are helpful for me as well as helping him learn his alphabet and numbers.
What else....we are preparing for our trip to MD which I am torn on...Excited about seeing Aidan and my BFF Brother-in-Law Monte' and not so excited about the "other" stuff. Keep us in your prayers.. God knows the situation so just pray for God's will in the situation. We will be soooo glad when this is done and over with.

Bible
This week more than any other I found bible verses that as I read them I couldn't pick up my pen fast enough to take notes or to mark the verse. God is so good....and when I am in the valley He is still with me... Showing me things in the bible that  I never saw before...no matter how many times I have read specific verses. AMAZING!!
Here are just a few of the ones that really touched my heart:
John 14: 13-14
John 14: 27
John 15: 7
Mark 11: 25-26

Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend...It is absolutely beautiful here in Georgia. Snow 2 weeks ago and a sunny 68 degrees today.
Love & Prayers!

~The Homeschooling part of my life~

So as far as homeschooling, this is my first year. I never thought in a million years I would be a homeschooling mom. It has its ups and downs, but for the most part I love it!! Heath really loves the freedom of it but misses the interaction with his old school friends and I think he really misses the structure of a classroom type setting. That is one thing that I have found very difficult because I do have a 2 and 3 year old running around the house as well. Trying to keep them focused so he can work is not as easy as it seems. A friend from church Michelle let me borrow a book called, Preschool Activities in a Bag, and we have been working on putting together activities for the boys.
This is one of the activities we made for Eli. It teaches number recognition and number order. When he is playing with this activity I ask him the number before he matches it up with the number trail. He knows his numbers up to 12 but past that we are still learning. We have lots of activities made and I will post pictures of other activities in a later blog. Currently this is his favorite!
As far as Heath, we use the A Beka curriculum and I love it. Now, with that said there may be a "better" curriculum but this is all I have used and so I have nothing to compare to, I have looked at others but nothing about the others really jumped out at me. I have heard though that the Saxon math is great. Heath was in a private school for K3 and K4 and I wanted to use the same curriculum they used because we may send him back to that school next year. We are using this year as a test...We will make a final decision this summer.
Heath has learned counting to 100 by 10's, he has learned his coins and the value of each coin, and what coins he would need to put together to buy "items". He has learned single number addition, and subtraction although I have not taught him subtraction...lol He just picked it up. I guess when you use M&M's occasionally to help with addition you learn subtraction by "accident". oops! lol He has also started learning to tell time. He has a hard time with writing his numbers occasionally, he tries to write his 4 backwards occasionally and he often forgets all together how to write some numbers so we do a little extra practice every other day with writing our numbers.
In handwriting he has learned how to write all lower case letters in cursive and has now started with the capital letters. He does really well with this on the days that he has decided not to be lazy!!! He has just recently learned the two vowel rule, short and long sound vowels and some of his "special sounds". He thinks he is a scholar now because he can read. lol He tries to read EVERYTHING and is getting a little ahead of himself. He is doing great and I couldn't ask for a more eager learner than Heath.
We also do bible study, He has learned about Adam and Eve, Noah's Ark, Jonah, Daniel and then we occasionally just read. I try to find out what he is learning about in Sunday School and we try to review that. This week we are learning about Abraham & Isaac without scaring him to death...lol
We do some Social Studies and art projects which he loves!! We have just this past week learned about George Washington...and just a side note, one great thing about homeschooling is when Heath wanted to see what the Washington Monument looked like we went right into my bedroom and found it on the Internet. Can't wait to get started on some of the Science stuff once it starts warming up. (Outside Time)
Anyhow, that pretty much brings us up to date on what he has learned and will be learning this week. Although that doesn't do it justice, he has learned so much more than just the few topics I have hit on in this blog.
~And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me.~ Hebrew 2:13
~And Israel beheld Joseph's sons, and said, Who are these? And Joseph said unto his father, They are my sons, whom God hath given me in this place. And he said, Bring them, I pray thee, unto me, and I will bless them.~ Genesis 48:8-9

~STRIKE!!~

Sometimes as a Mom I feel like screaming, "THAT'S IT, I AM GOING ON STRIKE". I don't know how many times I have to tell my son Heath "Do not put your feet on the couch" and in case you were curious, yes that does include walking on or jumping on. Thought I should clarify because sometimes he needs very specific direction.
"But Mommy, I wasn't jumping. I was walking." Really? So ...OK I just keep reminding myself He is 6...He is 6....He is 6!!!!!
So this evening I am picking up dirty laundry, toys, cleaning the kitchen from dinner and starting laundry to try to make my week a little easier. Get an early start ya know?
The more I do the more there is to do...and I am really starting to get frustrated and just really complaining on the inside and ...to be honest...feeling sorry for myself that I don't have a maid I guess who knows...lol
And God has little ways of saying "HEY GIRL!! Quit complaining and be thankful"..btw the very lesson I am trying to teach my boys! (Do as I say not as I do) lol
Heath walks in my room and says to me "Mommy, come to my room I have a surprise for you" So he is pulling me upstairs and I am expecting to walk in an find something he has built with Lego's or a fort he built to play in. But I walk in and here is what I see....

And he says to me "Look Mommy I made my bed so you wouldn't have to." And what a beautiful job he did. This is where I said to God...OK Lord..I hear you loud and clear.
Then I turn into that shameful little kid with my head hung in shame. It still amazes me how if you won't stop complaing long enough to hear him he will do something to get your attention.
~I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.~ Acts 20:35

~The Army part of my life~

~The past couple of days have been really hard on Alex.~
Mike is National Guard and he travels quite often. With Eli and Heath it wasn't so bad. Yes, they missed Daddy but it just was the normal for him to be gone days, weeks maybe even months at a time. We learned to adjust...it wasn't always easy but you do what you have to do! And ~btw~ I love my husband and my boys more than I could ever express so I am in no way complaining...just...uuummm we will call it emptying! :~)
It's never easy, when he is gone for a few days no big deal it disrupts our daily schedule a bit but nothing we can't recover from. Weeks or longer, on the other hand, are a little more difficult. We usually have to kinda rearrange our schedule to make up for Daddy not being here, and just about the time we get it set, here comes Daddy. LOL
But with Alex he has really turned into the Daddy's boy. For the past few weeks he is always asking about Daddy...Where's Daddy? Daddy work? Daddy home? He has just really fallen in love with Daddy.
Mike has been gone for two days and both nights Alex has woke up crying for Daddy and it just kills me because he just isn't old enough to understand that Daddy will be home tomorrow. I need a baby whisperer...lol
So what do I do...I go up lay in his little car bed with him, like his Daddy would do, with my feet hanging off over the headlights. Lightly rub his head and back with an ever so soft ssshhhh! And then I pray..~And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.~ Matthew 21:22 ~ until he falls asleep....

And then I go back downstairs and thank God for my family, and my amazing friends and for ALL he has done for us.
It's hard enough for me, as an adult, and I understand him being gone. In the beginning I am not going to lie it was HARD...but now we are going on 7 years of marriage in July and , don't get me wrong I miss him terribly when he is gone but I deal with it...But poor little Alex doesn't understand and I feel so bad for him.
But just think how excited he will be tomorrow when he spots Daddy's truck pulling in the driveway and sees Daddy walking up the sidewalk. I can tell you one things for sure...the squeal will be so high pitch, it will be painful!! And Heath will mutter an "Oh Brother" as he rolls his eyes and smacks his hand against his forehead...8~)

~A little about my new blog~

I am starting this blog to talk about my family, homeschooling, the challenges of being a mother to all boys, about friendship, about life in general...I will try, yes try...to post a blog a couple of times a week...Again homeschooling mother of 3 boys...need i say more? I love the idea of blogging as a way to share what my family is going through with my extended family and friends...as well as giving and receiving tips on parenting, homeschooling and just life in general. I am VERY sarcastic but I don't think that is a bad thing...you just have to have a sense of humor to appreciate it. I am a christian and I love talking about God and what he has done for me and my family. So from here I will go and post later once the boys are in bed...and until then... BUH BYE! OH..here is a pic of all my handsome boys:
This is the whole family..Eli (in my lap), then myself, Alex(the smile down front), my husband Mike, Heath(in front of Mike), and step-son Aidan (at Mike's shoulder)
